Situated at the South end of Avenida da liberdade, Restauradores square is considered the starting point of the expansion of the city to the North, away from the course of the river Tagus.
One of the busiest areas of the city, connecting the Baixa Pombalina to Praça Marquês de Pombal, has as a symbol the Obelisk shaped monument, erected in 1886, which commemorates the 1640 restoration of the independence of Portugal from Spain.
On the pedestal of the monument are two figures of
bronze, representing victory and freedom.
