Beach Description:

Surrounded by architectural heritage of historical interest (fortified wall of the city gates) and dune system of significant environmental value (Natura 2000 Site Peniche/Santa Cruz), the beach of Gamboa allows a very comfortable beach use by the perception of landscape, excellent water quality (Quality Gold Beach 2011 by Quercus) and by compliance with a set of environmental criteria, safety and comfort of users and information and environmental awareness (blue flag Beach blue flag Association of Europe since 2002, a total of 10 years of assignment of this award). The ECOXXI Project, promoted by the Foundation for Environmental Education/Blue flag Association of Europe since 2005, seeks to recognize municipalities that are distinguished by the quality of its actions and policies in the context of sustainability, highlighting a number of aspects considered essential to building Sustainable development. The implementation of good practice in education for sustainability and environmental quality in the municipality, the municipality of Peniche is awarded since 2008 with the green flag ECOXXI, representative of the existence of a consistent path towards sustainability.
