Forte do Pessegueiro

Built by Dom Pedro II in the 17th century, for defend the coast from pirates and Corsairs. It is known the existence of Garrison at least until 1844. It was used in conjunction with the blockhouse erected within the island, ruined by the earthquake of 1755.

It is a monument of public interest since 1957 (Decree No. 41191 of July 18) and will cross soon restoration, to be open to the public.
