With architectural design of Francisco and Manuel Aires Mateus and Joaquim museological programme Banks, the Lighthouse Museum of Santa Marta was rehabilitated on the basis of a protocol signed between the municipality of Cascais and the General staff of the Portuguese Armada. Opened to the public in July 2007, your model is unprecedented in the country, uniting exhibition spaces with the coastal signalling function, supervised by Navy Headlights direction.
With the exception of the Cannonball found in archaeological excavations in the communal room, the collection of the Lighthouse Museum of Santa Marta was entirely restored and deposited at the Lighthouse Museum by the Portuguese Navy/direction of Headlights
The exhibition area is divided into two spaces, installed in the old residences of the lighthouse keepers.
The core 1-Portuguese Headlights: technology and History exhibits, among others, large Fresnel lenses, with a particular focus on the optical device pane of the lighthouse of the Berlengas, which reaches 3, 70 m tall.
The core 2-Santa Marta, of Strong the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper craft focuses on the Santa Marta Lighthouse experience throughout the ages. Here, we highlight the lighthouse keeper's log, which records in detail occurrences of foggy days, and nights lit.
The educational service of the Lighthouse Museum organizes a comprehensive program aimed at audiences of all ages.
